A union was performed on Pal_Gw_Vulnerability and PC_GW_vulnerability. Then a new column added to distinguish between high, medium and low with a corresponding code field. The levels then were extracted out individually at which point rasters were created of each to clean up file. Conversion back to shape and then merged together in one file.
Pal_GW_vulnerability.shp + Pal_GW_vulnerability = GW_VulnerabilityUnion.shp

High. shp, Medium.shp, Low.shp were transformed into rasters to clean up problems =
High_raster.tif, Medium_raster.tif and Low_raster.tif
Then converted back into polygon
High_Rastertopolygon.shp + Medium_Rastertopolygon.shp + Low_Rastertopolygon.shp
= GW_VulnerabilityMergedFinal.shp
GW_Vulnerability_union.shp contained discrepancies between class and class_1 values, therefore new fields were created to determine the class for each area where discrepancies existed. It also contained areas where no classes were defined. These were classified. Hence the final shapefile GW_Vulnerability_union contains the gridcode and class for each area.
